Stories and Thoughts from a Grandma

This comes from one of my friends who is a Grandma and loving it!  I always love to hear her tell stories about her grandchildren!   These are just a few she is allowing me to include.  ~ Lois

My granddaughter, to whom we sometimes refer as "Little One," will be 3 in October and shows all the tendencies to be an A-Type personality - she likes her ducks, as well as her Veggie Tales, blocks, dishes, etc., all in a row!  Well, Little One came roaring in the room and announced loudly, "I NEED HEY-ELP!"  Mom asked what the problem was.  "I pooped!  And I need HEY-ELP!"  Mom said, "Okay, we'll clean you up."  "But I had to potty and I pooped!  And I need HEY-ELP!"  Mom still tried to reassure her it was okay.  And Little One, sobbing, said, "But I was doing so good!"  Mom, at this point trying to keep her composure, reassured Little One, all WAS okay.  But Little One was not to be comforted.  Again, still sobbing, she said, "But, Mom, I WAS doing SO GOOD!"

Fast forward 2 days.  Little One was hungry.  Mom has taught her how to get the jelly from the refrigerator, peanut butter and bread from the pantry, little stool to stand on, and how to proceed and spread stuff on bread.  (In the meantime Mom got a knife from the drawer).  Little One followed procedure and then put everything away.   Mom took sandwich and used the mouth of a large glass and made a "circle" sandwich and put on a dish and handed it to Little One, who put it on her high chair tray and was lifted into chair.  After praying, Little One carefully eyed her creation and then promptly crowed, "This is a circle!  I needed a triangle today!"

This is the same Little One that at age 2 1/2 knew all 50 states and could put together a wood USA puzzle.  We have "Sippi," "Pen-vania," "Maaaine," "Tucky," "Sourri," "Fornia," Oootah," "Sota," and (Grandma's favorite) - "Sishigan."  Recently Little One announced she had lost "Braska".  "Don't know where it is...Braska is gone!"  Last week she was happy as a bumble bee ... "I found Braska!"

Little One wanted to watch one of her favorite Veggie Tale videos one morning.  Mom asked, "Do you have to go potty?"  "Yes."  "Then you go potty first and then you can watch you Veggie Tales."  The entire time this child is "trying" to go, she is sobbing saying, "But I can't go; I gotta watch my Veggie Tales."  Mom calmly assures her, "No you go, then you can watch your Veggie Tales."  Little One, "Ohhhh, man; I just can't go; I gotta watch my Veggie Tales."   End of story - Mom won!

Mom refers to Little One as Miss Dramatic.   Grandma gets in on a lot of this while talking with Mom on the phone.  One other day the following happened and we sure learned who was in charge.  Mom said to her, "I said. no; do not do that."  Little One said, "No, Mommy; no say no to me."  Mom said, "I said, NO!"  Little One, "No, say no Mommie, to me."  Then Mom said, "Girfriend.  I'm the Mom.  You're the kid.  I said no.  Got it?"  Little One...silent !!!!!   Grandma didn't hear anymore out of LIttle One.  I think she got it!  :-)

Precious indeed are the little ones that God brings into our lives.  May we give them everything we can in the way of love and reinforcement of Christian values.  And may we as grandparents be living in such a way that we will leave behind a STRONG Christian legacy for these little ones who will all too soon be adults.  Let us always remember, these little ones will be listening and watching.  Continually remind them that you love them, pray for them, and most of all . . . that your heart's desire is for them to come to know Jesus and grow up to live for Him and serve Him!

Recently, in reminding my 12 year old grandson that I love him and how precious he is to my heart, he put his arms around me, looked up into my face and intently replied, "I know, Nina, I've known that since before I was born!"  Now, that'll warm a Grandma's heart!
